Jacquet, Illinois Saxophonists Bands and Artists Jazz
Jean-Baptiste "Illinois" Jacquet (1922-2004) was a Jazz saxophonist who was a member of the big bands of Cab Calloway, Lionel Hampton, and Count Basie; before starting his first band 1n 1946. He first made his name with his tenor saxophone solo on "Flying Home" with Hampton, recorded when he was 19. In the 1980s and 90s, he become artist-in-residence at Harvard University and led his own big band.
