Final Fantasy III was released on the SNES (Super Nintendo Entertainment System) by Squaresoft in North America. This was the third installment of the series for North American gamers and the sixth for Japanese. Known as Final Fantasy VI in Japan, it was renamed to suit the North American audience who had only seen three Final Fantasy on the SNES.
