Nagpur Districts Maharashtra India
This district is named after the city of Nagpur. Bakht Buland, a Gond Raja (king), founded Nagpur in the early eighteenth century; it became the capital of the Bhonsles of the Maratha confederacy. In 1817 it came under British influence, in 1853 it lapsed into British control, and in 1861 became the capital of the Central Provinces. Nagpur was the capital of Madhya Pradesh State till 1956 before it became a part of Maharashtra State.
