Dedekind, Richard Mathematicians
Julius Wihelm Richard Dedekind (1831-1916), mathematician whose major contribution was a redefinition of irrational numbers in terms of Dedekind cuts. He introduced the notion of an ideal which is fundamental to ring theory.
