Malay Western Malayo-Polynesian Austronesian
Malay is a Western Malayo-Polynesian member of the Austronesian language family spoken by approximately 47% of the population of Malaysia. Speakers are principally located within Malaysia with smaller populations in Brunei, Indonesia, Myanmar, Singapore and Thailand. Alternative names for Malay include Bahasa Malaysia, Bahasa Malayu, Malayu, Melaju, Melayu and Standard Malay.
