USS Cole, 2000 Incidents Terrorism Issues
On October 12, 2000, the USS Cole was refueling in Aden, Yemen, when two people steered a small boat loaded with explosives alongside the ship and stood at attention as the small craft blew up. The explosion, which tore a large hole in the port side of the ship's hull, killed seventeen sailors and wounded thirty-five.
