St. Louis Browns Teams Major League Baseball

American League franchise began in 1901 as the Milwaukee Browns. Was in St. Louis from 1902-1953, when owner Bill Veeck sold the team to a Baltimore group that moved the club and renamed it the Orioles. The Browns usually played in the second division, but managed one trip to the World Series (1944), where they played the hometown rival Cardinals in the "Subway Series," the only Series played in one stadium (Sportsman's Park). The Browns also had midget pinch hitter Eddie Gaedel, fading Negro League star Satchel Paige, and a host of other notable or ignoble players in their fifty years in St. Louis.
